today we saw a note going around tumblr, that many of the human persons living on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation are going without heating oil. while the media hypes “black friday”, and from what we saw on the television today it was a dark day indeed, real human persons are having real problems, ironically coming to light the day after your thanksgiving holiday, which commemorates a day when american indian persons gave newly arrived immigrant persons a hand.

• According to current USDA Rural Development documents, the Lakota have the lowest life expectancy of any group in America. The median income on the reservation is approximately $2,600 to $3,500 per year, with about 97% of people living far below the federal poverty line.
• Heating and fueling just one house on the reservation can easily impact 2 dozen lives, as there are an average of 17 people per family home (with up to 30 in many houses).
• 39% of the homes on the Pine Ridge Reservation have no basic water, sewage system or electricity and lack basic insulation.
and this is just one reservation in america.
we are but fish, yet many of us are bound, intrinsically and historically, to indigenous human persons from all over the world! we take pride that the orca and salmon are celebrated in song and story and art by so many american indian people, that the sturgeon was named a mighty soul by the Iroquois, and that even the catfish was honored by tribes all along the great Mississippi!
song of the day! and if you cannot give anything at this time because you are in need yourself, please reblog this post and the other posts, and post to your twitters and facebooks! thank you!
A GATHERING of FAMILY~
A CORNUCOPIA of THANKS GIVING
What a beautiful time of year. It feels good to be with people who know most of our history and love us anyway. We’ve all been through a lot. We’ve survived plenty of dramas and setbacks, haven’t we. But here we are, in this moment, joking around and waiting to share food together.
We make up a tiny spirit plate, a simple offering to thank nature for her gifts this year and each person adds a tidbit of something from the table. The laughter quiets and our faces soften as a few prayers are added. I guess we’re all thinking of friends and family members who have crossed over to the other side, wishing we could touch them with more than our hearts. Even the kids feel the unspoken emotion. Someone lifts their glass to make a toast, “To our friends who are here and our friends who are far…and to the spirits who are with us this day. Thank you and salud!”
We’ve connected. We feel blessed.
Recycled vintage knitting needles on Etsy
Pretty unique gift! I love finding things that I know my friends don’t already have. Especially when it’s upcycled and oh, hey! It’s green too.
"Blessed be" is a most magical utterance at the end of a prayer or small offering ceremony. Those two little words release our heartfelt thoughts to do their work in the matrix, to join and strengthen the exact same feelings others are having.
Indeed. When we arrange beautiful objects that have personal meaning to us, we are creating a special feature where our thoughts can become peaceful. The gerbils in our head stop running around and powerful magic occurs because we are beyond the the limitations of time and space…We all know that thoughts create reality and that our daily worries are a prayer for what we don’t want. We choose in every moment, the harmonic that affects our material world. The possibilities around us are endless because everything is sacred.
EMPOWERMENT! PROUD to OCCUPY Spokane, Washington!
Torin is his name…speaking for his future is his game!
"Let’s put our minds together and see what kind of life we can make for our children." Sitting Bull
And that’s the whole point of OWS. It does matter what kind of a future awaits them and we should be exposing the inequities in every way we can. Now, while we can.
My daughter is a registered nurse. She’s already put her self through school and is simultaneously working hard while raising her kid to value sustainability, fairness and integrity. My grandson has lots of questions about how life works and why some of the people have control of most of the money.
How do you explain about corporations to a seven year old or what it means, that the house she bought is “underwater” and that it lost it’s value when the induced housing bubble burst. Or that her payments however, remain the same and will likely still be going on long after he’s reached adulthood. And that many people don’t even have jobs or houses.
That’s why he’s smiling at the protest. He’s eager to be part of the solution. He’s empowered by the possibility of creating a good future for everyone. He made his own sign. Sitting Bull would be proud.
Pretty Circle Tree, 24x24. Always popular. Lots more pretty paintings are in my etsy shop.
there’s a number of discussions happening over there in the etsyworld forums (what’s left of ‘em) about the decision to spam etsysellers’ individual customers. and per the usual, which we have observed for YEARS now, the etsy admin are ignoring the problem, planning to just bully their way along as they usually do.
etsycorp has a problem remembering that the sellers on etsy, the actual makers of handmade things, are their customers, and the buyers are the customers of the actual makers of things. etsy, you see, doesn’t make anything. it is one reason, since our escape from their clutches, that we rarely speak of them anymore. and while we promote individual etsyshops all the time here on our tumblr, that is because the makers of wonderful things have shops there— we promote individual stand-alone sites and other venue sites as well. but in any case, we think it might be a good idea to publicize yet another etsyland debacle, and their annoying inability to exercise any care or common sense.
you know, human makers of wonderful handmade things— YOU are the handmade movement, not that giant corporation over there in brooklyn! that giant corporation makes nothing but a lot of empty promises, all the while selling the one thing they have decided to actually prioritize— and what is that, Swimmies of Doom? why, you of course! all of your info, your friends’ info, your families’ info, your customers’ info. they sell YOU. as if you were a tuna brought to market! that’s right. that’s what they think of you!
as long as you know that and give them nothing useful, we think that’s fine. but sadly many of you do not know that this is even going on, since etsyworld remains terrible with things like, oh, basic communication. and morals.

Glowing like a beacon…on a dark and stormy night, it was her necklace that first drew his eye.
"The deep amber of the faceted quartz reflected the candlelight with even her slightest movements as she leaned closer to lift her glass. Who is this mysterious woman he wondered, as he turned his chair to watch her. So quiet, so sexy with class and just a touch of bold rebellion…he had to get to know her. The thunder and lightning were increasing as rain pounded with fury against the windows of the lounge. The lights flickered. He must hurry. He stood and slowly……."
